The goal of this project was to demonstrate the beneficial use of recycled scrap tire material (i.e. crumb rubber) through the refurbishment of an existing natural grass athletic field. Crumb rubber applications were made at three juncturse with the final application being made July 7, 2007. A total of 88,000 pounds of shredded scrap tire material was applied..
The State Used Tire Clean-Up and Recycling Fund was used to provide the materials and services required for the refurbishment, including crumb rubber. The College provided in-kind project services by completing necessary pre/post-installation turf management measures. This project provided the College with a direct economic benefit of the Fund and will foster an environmentally friendly market for recycled materials.
The College identified its soccer game field as the project location. The street address for the project location is as the same as the College, 7932 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21702-9745. The field is used for men’s and women’s soccer home games and warm-ups. The season of play runs from August through November.
